In Memory of Louise - Cross Stitch Antiques is a vibrant reproduction of a 19th-century Berlin woolwork-style memorial sampler originally stitched in Germany in 1874. The piece features the heartfelt inscription “Zur Erinnerung” (translated as “In Memory Of”), honoring Louise Teegen, whose life and love of animals are celebrated in colorful motifs across the sampler.
The design includes two deer, a swan, butterflies, kittens, a dog, and a rooster—stitched in cheerful colors that bring warmth and joy to this memorial piece. The original was stitched on 16 count open-weave canvas with wool. The model has been adapted for modern stitchers and is stitched on 40 count Vintage Sand Dune linen by Lakeside Linens using 100/3 silks, with DMC conversions provided. English text replaces the original German in the model (German chart included), with the phrase stitched in red for clarity.
